Batterworks

Joining the likes of Grin Affair at Everton Park is Batterworks! Not the typical sit and relax kind of cafe, but more of a grab and go takeaway outlet.

Chocolate Amande ($3.80) – A flourless dark chocolate almond cake. Indeed, the “flourless” feature made the Chocolate Amande a dense, moist, rich and decadent chocolate cake. It was those kind of cakes which would make you irresistibly and uncontrollably lick your forks after each mouth. We didn’t quite detect the almond taste, but other than that, we enjoyed the bitter sweetness of the dark chocolate and the dense mousse like texture.

The Chocolate Fudge Brownie ($3.80) was drier and more crumbly. Somehow, the taste of the outer surface of the brownie resembled that of flaky sugar crystals, which we didn’t quite enjoy. On the whole, it was a reasonably chocolately and fudgy brownie – not too surprisingly or over the top.

The Oreo Cheese Tartlet ($1.20) was too small to allow us to fully appreciate the cheesy goodness. In fact, each bite was almost 80% Oreo chunks and 20% cheesecake. Perfect for the Oreo lover, but not that suitable for cheesecake lovers.

Batterworks also sells savoury bites like the Roasted Pork Pastry ($0.95) and the Curry Pastry ($0.95) – mini versions of  the Char Siew Soh (叉燒酥) and curry puffs. Small pockets of strong flavours, perfect to balance the sweetness from the desserts!
