Plain Vanilla Bakery

with one comment

Hidden on the second storey above El Patio Mexican Restaurant & Wine Bar at Holland Village is Plain Vanilla Bakery. The popularity of this small quaint cupcake bakery is evident as there was a constant flow of customers climbing up the narrow stairway to the 2nd storey, and then descending down with boxes and boxes of cupcakes.

$3.50 for a cupcake is on the pricey side, especially when we didn’t particularly like it. As much as the reviews for Plain Vanilla were on the positive side, we weren’t blown away by the Dark Chocolate Ganache Cupcake. The frosting consisted of a layer of ganache and chocolate nibs – a mixed texture of crunchiness and creaminess. The chocolate sponge wasn’t very rich, was light and on the moist side. In general, the cupcake wasn’t awful, but it seemed to be over-rated and over-priced.

  1. You guys are not the only ones. I found pvb disappointing too. Tried the signature white choc, red velvet, sea salt caramel as well. None hits the spot
