Nougatine Dacquoise

Nougatine Dacquoise

Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf’s cake of the month of April is the Nougatine Dacquoise ($6) – Layers of chocolate buttercream filled with almond and hazelnut meringue combined with nougatine bites. This was basically a sponge cake alternated with layers of cream. There was a generous amount of pistachio and almond bits studded within the cream and the sides of the cake. The chocolate fudge was thinly spread on the top of the cake. In addition, the flaky biscuits atop the cake tasted rather stale and lacked crispiness. There was no hint of nougatine at all. A rather mediocre cake which was nowhere near the Hazelnut Dacquoise from Queen’s.
