Chocolate Rum Cream Cup

During our previous visit to Basilico, we popped by The Regent’s gourmet delicatessen and were particularly drawn towards the Chocolate Rum Cream Cup ($8), which left a first impression of  a bath tub of chocolate soup/fondue infused with strong liqueur. It turned out to be a bowl of chocolaty creamy soft fudge, likened to that of melted ganache. In fact, it tasted very similar to the Italian dessert Sabayon we had at Basilico, saved for the fact that it was not as chilled. The smooth and rich dessert, with a lingering tinge of rum, could get a little overwhelming for a single person to stomach. The homogenous cream could get monotonous after a while too, another reason why this dessert should be best shared. The refreshing cherries, tasting mildly of liquor too, were good antidotes to the richness of the base. It is not common to spot places serving quality ganache that could satisfy our humongous appetite for chocolaty desserts. SomethingToGo did it. Coupled with its friendly service crew, this place deserves a revisit.
