Geláre Cafe

It seems like there’s a new ice cream outlet in Singapore every month. With the emergence of all these new ice cream shops, old timers like Geláre, Andersen’s must make more effort to keep up with the demanding consumers. Geláre Cafe has always been famous for its half-priced waffles on Tuesdays. But is their ice cream up to the mark?

Waffle Basket Sundae

Waffle Basket Sundae

Geláre’s Waffle Basket Sundae is a 3 scoop ice cream, topped with whipped cream, served in a waffle bowl. We ordered 2 sundaes, and the following flavours: Tiramisu, Swiss Chocolate Caramel, Blueberry Cheesecake Yoghurt, Cookies and Cream, Caramel Fudge Brownie and Chocolate Overload. 6 flavours and 1 conclusion – Mediocre. The ice creams were all lacking in taste. The Tiramisu had no alcoholic flavour, even the coffee taste was bland. The Swiss Chocolate Caramel was absolutely stripped of caramel. Sure, the Blueberry Cheesecake Yoghurt tasted strongly of blueberries, but where’s the cheesecake? One thing good was that the Cookies and Cream had a generous proportion of cookies. The Caramel Fudge Brownie was a bit richer, but nonetheless, not comparable to the ones from Seventh Heaven or Udders. On the whole, the ice cream was sticky, that is definitely to our liking. But taste wise, it was just not up to the mark. And at $12.80 per Waffle Basket Sundae, it is definitely not worth every cent.
