Sapporo Petit Doughnut

As the name goes, Sapporo Petit Doughnut sells petit donuts with different fillings. It’s a new addition to the basements of Takashimaya, taking over the Auntie Anne’s shop space. We tried the Caramel flavoured ones. Strangely, if I wasn’t told that it’s supposed to be caramel, I would have mistaken it for the Gula Melaka coconut. There was nothing special or fanciful about the donuts. But one thing that impressed us was that these donuts were not deep fried. We have tried mini donuts from Marcial Kobe (at the Central) which were very oily. Sapporo’s doughnuts were sort of baked in a similar way to Taiyaki – a Japanese pastry (with different fillings) which come in the shape of a fish. So in a way, the donuts did not seem too oily and would be a healthier version to conventional donuts.

And other than the typical donut shapes, some flavours come in the Merlion shape – Singapore style!
